37-year old man shots himself dead

Residents of Anum, a suburb of Asamankese, in the Upper West Akim Municipality of the Eastern Region, were over the weekend thrown into a state of shock when a 37-year-old man, Kwaku Obiri Aboagye, trader, allegedly shot himself dead.

The body of the deceased is at the Asamankese Government Hospital awaiting autopsy, while the police are investigating the case to unravel the cause of the tragic death,

An eyewitness, who simply gave his name as Wisdom, told DAILY GUIDE that the deceased lived together with his wife and three children in their own compound house.

According to him, Friday afternoon the deceased went out to have some fun with his friends in the same municipality, and was spotted around 6:00 pm at a Total filling station fueling his vehicle.

Wisdom said at about 8:30 pm, he heard a sound from the house of Kwaku Obiri Aboagye, but he ignored it only to learn later that Kwaku had shot himself dead and was lying in a pool of blood while the pump action gun allegedly used in committing the heinous crime, was lying beside him.

Wife of the deceased, Mame Owusuah said, “My late husband returned from town around 7:15 pm and I went to serve him supper. After some few minutes, he called our elderly son to sit beside him while he was eating. When he finished eating, he gave some documents to our son to send to a friend.”

According to the widow, after the son had left, she heard a gunshot in their bedroom and rushed there to see what was amiss; and to her surprise, she found the husband in a pool of blood. She posited that she raised an alarm and the other tenants came to the scene.

The case was later reported to the police and some personnel went to the scene around 8:30 pm to take the body to the hospital.

DSP Samson Anane Appiah, the Asamankese Municipal Police Commander, confirmed the incident, adding that the pump action gun was with the police, while his outfit had started investigating the matter.
