I’m Not Behind Plot To Oust Anyim As SGF – Ex-Gov. Sam Egwu

Sam EgwuImmediate past governor of Ebonyi State, Dr Sam Egwu, has denied reports that he is spearheading moves to unseat the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, who hails from the state.

In a statement, the former governor said the reports were brought to his attention around 10.30 am on Friday and that he was truly confounded at the carefully constructed falsehood.

He pointed out that the reports were the handiwork of “wicked minded and politically desperate individuals who hope to achieve other aims by knocking heads together through insinuations and irresponsible innuendos”.

He added: “I am, however, convinced that anyone with even a little knowledge of politics and personalities mentioned in the reports will immediately dismiss it without second thought”.

In the statement, Egwu said that he never had any discussions with Mr Peter Obi, who was tipped in the report as the beneficiary of the plan to unseat Anyim, stressing that he knew the former Anambra State governor to be responsible and easy-going regarding his future since he left office and that he did not see how he (Obi) will be involved in such a plot.

Egwu also said that he did not see how he came into the picture as the chief proponent of any position whatsoever for Obi in Abuja.

He gave several explanations why the idea of a lobby, by whatever means, to unseat the present SGF could be easily seen to be untrue for several reasons.

“The first is that Anyim not only acquitted himself well as Senate President, but is also performing exceptionally well in his current position as SGF. Anyim is said to have made the President and the nation proud through various far-seeing national unity initiatives; such as the just concluded National Conference, the centenary celebrations and many others”, he said.

Egwu also believes that the former governor of Anambra State was likely to be more than shocked to hear that he was part of any plot to unseat the SGF a few months before an election he would like President Goodluck Jonathan to win.
