The AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Community Trust Fund has commissioned projects within the host communities in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem municipality.
At New Techiman, the company inaugurated an Early Childhood Development Centre.
The Fund also commissioned aqua-privy toilet facilities at Nkwantakrom and Domeabra.
The projects were undertaken in collaboration with the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal Assembly, the Municipal Education office and the host communities.
The total amount spent on all the development projects was GH₵313,934.24.
The Iduapriem Community Trust Fund was launched in September 2011 per the stability agreement between the gold mining company and the government of Ghana.
The Trust Fund Secretariat was mandated to support the long-term sustainable development of communities in which AngloGold Ashanti Iduaprieme operates.
Professor Newton Amegbey, Chairman of the Trust Fund, noted that the fund was focusing on education because it was an important way of promoting good health and preventing diseases.
According to him, the Fund involved natives in the decision-making process to avoid establishing projects that could be abandoned by the beneficiaries after they had been commissioned.
He assured the beneficiary communities that the Trust Fund would remain committed to supporting the host communities to improve their well-being.
He emphasized the need for community members and their leaders to work towards the sustainability of the facilities.
Emmanuel Baidoo, Senior Manager of the Sustainability Department of the Iduaprieme Mine, noted that AngloGold Ashanti was committed to improving the lives of inhabitants in its host communities.
He intimated that the Trust Fund would continue to partner government agencies and the traditional authorities to empower indigenes in its operational areas.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Tarkwa-Nsuaem, Gifty Eugenia Kusi, appealed to the communities to effectively maintain the projects in order to benefit future generations.
