The Vicar General of the Catholic Archdiocese of Kumasi, Very Rev Fr Louis Tuffuor has charged media practitioners in the country to exercise boldness without fear or favour in disseminating the truth at all times towards national development.

Rev Fr Louis charged the media to speak the truth in the discharge of their professional duties for the sake of humanity.

“You have a duty to be truthful and professional in the discharge of your duty and to promote unity in society’’ he said.

He made the call when he inaugurated the Ashanti Regional Branch of the Catholic Association of Media Practitioners –Ghana (CAMP-G) during Mass at the St Paul`s Parish, Amakom, a suburb of Kumasi.

The inaugural ceremony was on the theme; “The Role of the Catholic Media Practitioner in the New Evangelization”.

Very Rev Fr Louis called on all Catholics media professionals to join CAMP-G to enable them have a united voice to project the objectives of the association and the new Evangelization mission of the church which he said is the responsibility of all.

He urged members of CAMP-G to embrace Christ and understand the teachings of the church to enable them serve as worthy ambassadors in communicating the truth to the rest of the world.

The Vicar General abhors negative acts such as corruption, abortion, teenage pregnancy that has bedeviled society and urged media practitioners to speak against such acts without fear or favour for the good of society.

He challenged members of the inky fraternity to constantly highlight developmental challenges confronting the nation such as health, education, economy, cultural practices in the reportage to inform policy decision by government whilst they educate the public about the deadly Ebola virus, blood pressure, diabetes, cholera among others.

The inauguration was witnessed by the chief of Amakom, Nana Adu Mensah Asare II, Amakomhene who entreated the media to desist from sensationalism, Emmanuel Vorgbe interim National President of CAMP-G and the second Vice President of UCAP (Union Catholique Africaine de la Presse-African Catholic Union of the Press), Mrs Victoria Lugey.

The executives of the Ashanti Regional branch of CAMP-G includes Johson Gyampoh as Chairman; Felix Baidoo, Secretary; and Robert Sey Financial Secretary.

The rest are William Boakye Baafi, Organizer, Nana Asabre Oduyefuor, Assistant Secretary and Juliana Azakrah, Treasurer.
