Vodafone Ghana Introduces A Unique Number For Public Education On Ebola

Accra, August 18, 2014 – Telecommunication service provider, Vodafone Ghana, has rolled-out a unique number to help provide public education on the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) to the general public. This is in line with Vodafone’s pledge to contribute to an enhanced health care delivery in Ghana.

The number “0 50 50 50 500” can be accessed across all networks and is routed to the Medical Call Center, which will provide relevant information on Ebola, Cholera and other health conditions. The Medical Call Centre is accessible between 4pm and 10pm every day. At the other end of the line is a medical team, which will provide answers to questions on Ebola and Cholera.

The Head of External Affairs for Vodafone Ghana, Gayheart Mensah, said: “This initiative is to support the Ghana Health Service’s public campaign to educate members of the public on how to prevent an Ebola outbreak, which has spread to other West African nations, including Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria.

“This is one of the platforms we are using to engage Ghanaians, and provide education to them on the disease. We believe that the general public will benefit a lot from this initiative,” he added.

According to Mr. Mensah, Vodafone will continue to deploy communication solutions to bring about positive social change in the country.

Vodafone customers should dial 255 for the same service – public education on Ebola and Cholera – and also for expert medical advice on any other health issues, for only 1 pesewa per minute.
