Sir Kofi Portuphy to be honoured for selfless dedication to humanity


National Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Sir Kofi Portuphy will be honored with a doctorate degree for his selfless dedication and service to humanity.

The award which is under the auspices of the University of Ghana in collaboration with DaySpring Christian University is set to take place on Firday, August 29 th.

Prior to the formation of NADMO, as a member of the National Mobilization Programme set up after the 1982 to 1983 crisis of drought, bushfires and famine, he played an immeasurable role in the deportation of about 1.2 million Ghanaians Nigeria and Liberia.

Sir Portuphy as a member of the Disaster Relief Committee was instrumental in coordinating the draft of the Disaster Management Act became the first National Coordinator of NADMO.

Since 1996 till now, he has been very instrumental in disaster management in the country and played a key role in the formation of NADMO.

Based on this backdrop, the management of the University of Ghana and DaySpring Christian University deemed it fit to confer on Sir Portuphy a doctorate degree.

The event to be graced by several dignitaries is scheduled to take place at the Atomic campus of the School of Nuclear and Allied Science of the University of Ghana.
