Sundowns Confirm They Are Considering Offers For Rashid Sumaila

Technical Director of Mamelodi Sundowns Trott Moloto has confirmed the club is considering offers for Ghana defender Rashid Sumaila.

Unnamed clubs in Turkey and Belgium have expressed interest in signing the 21-year-old from the PSL champions.

Sundowns have been reluctant in registering the Black Stars defender for their Premier League season – guarding against the use of their foreign player quota in their squad.

The ex Asante Kotoko loanee as a result has not been involved in the two opening games of Sundowns’ Premier League title defence.

The club’s technical director has now confirmed they are locked in advanced negotiations to sell the Ghana international to an European club.

“The negotiations are going on, these people appear keen to sign the player,” Moloto told Metro FM.

“We can’t stop the players from progressing forward. The lifespan of footballers are very short and it is every players dream to play in Europe.

“He [Sumaila] must get the chance to play outside and Sundowns will continue to support him in all ways we can.”

Sumaila was a member of the Ghana squad that failed to go past the group stage at the 2014 World Cup.

He however remained an unused substitute throughout the Black Stars’ disastrous campaign in Brazil.
