Nana Ankoana, it will be recalled, was assassinated by unknown person(s) on November 4, 2013 at about 7:30 pm when he was relaxing at the porch of his private residence at Seikwa – the hometown of the General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, aka General Mosquito – in the Tain District of the Brong-Ahafo Region.
The late chief, whose mortal remains were laid to rest at Seikwa at the weekend, was allegedly shot at close range and died shortly after he was rushed to the local health facility.
Nana Kwaku Dwuma Ankoana, 64, who reigned for 25 years, was the Chief Executive Officer of the Sunyani-based Soapem Construction Firm, a road construction company.
According to police report, four persons had since been arrested in connection with his death, but reports indicate that no concrete evidence was found against the suspects, who are said to have been granted bail.
Addressing hundreds of mourners, including traditional rulers, politicians and the people of Seikwa during the final funeral rites, President Mahama, who expressed his disgust about the manner in which the chief lost his life, told the people that he would ensure that the case was thoroughly investigated and the culprits brought to book.
The President, who donated GH¢10,000 and assorted drinks towards the funeral, also expressed shock at the death of the Chief of Bimbilla in the Northern Region – who was also alleged to have been assassinated.
He used the occasion to assure the people in the area that the Seikwa-Berekum road would be fixed as funds had been released to the contractor who had suspended work on it, to return to site to complete the project.
The NDC General Secretary, Mr. Asiedu Nketiah, also gave out GH¢5,000 as well as a bull to the bereaved family.
