EC Registers Over 90,000 People In BA

Statistics from the regional directorate of the EC revealed that the Techiman Municipality recorded the highest turnout of 7,600, followed by the Sunyani Municipality where 6,130 new voters were registered during the exercise.

Newly created Banda District, however, recorded the lowest turnout as only 958 voters were registered.

Meanwhile, the Brong-Ahafo Region recorded 505 challenge cases as a result of doubts about the ages, places of residence and nationalities of the affected persons.

The Dormaa Municipality recorded the highest challenge cases of 97, followed by the Tano South and the Kintampo South Districts which recorded 48 and 42 cases respectively.

Sene East and the Dormaa East Districts, however, recorded the least number of challenge cases as both districts recorded one case each.

According to the EC Regional Directorate, various District Registration Review Committees had been constituted to sit on the challenge cases.

The EC explained that the review committees which started sitting last Friday would end their work on Wednesday and submit their final reports to the regional office. According to the EC, the confiscated voter ID cards would be issued to the affected persons, or otherwise, based on the outcome of the committees’ sittings.

According to the Commission, the just ended exercise was generally successful in the region as no district reported any major hitch during the exercise. The Commission disclosed that it put in place the necessary measures such as standby kits in all the centres as well as two replacement centres at Techiman and Sunyani to quickly replace faulty materials.
