Tension is brewing at Gomoa Fete in the Central Region following the death of the stool head, Abusuapanyin Nana Kwame Okyere Pantu, who was shot by some assailants last month.

The family and elders of the deceased have threatened to seek revenge if the authorities fail to prosecute the perpetrators.

Abusuapanyin Nana Kwame Okyere Pantu, who was also the Mankrado of Fete Kakraba, was killed by two men.

The suspects, who were using an unregistered motorbike, killed the chief on February 27 around 6:20 pm while he was inspecting some of his property in the town.

The police arrested eight suspects- Nana Kofi Baah II aka Maakpa, 47, Kwesi Boadu aka Ninja, 34, Abiolu Ibrahim aka Roughrider, 33, and Gaba Banor aka Atsuvi, 20.

Subsequently, two of the suspects were released.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra, Steven Nana Ackon Mensah, spokesperson of Abor Ewusi Royal Family of Gomoa Fete, called on President John Mahama to intervene in the matter to ensure justice.

According to him, peace would elude the people of Gomoa Fete unless the culprits are brought to book.

He said the release of the two suspects, including Kwasi Essel Sey, had mounted tension at Gomoa Fete.

‘All is not well at Gomoa Fete as some of the citizens, who are living in fear, are planning to leave the town because their lives are in danger and fear for their security,’ Nana Ackon Mensah said.

He called for the arrest of Nana Abor Yamoah II of Gomoa Fete and one Kwasi Alhaji who he accused of been behind the murder of the chief.

Nana Ackon Mensah attributed the murder of the chief to the Fete chieftaincy dispute which has been going on since 1997, stating that the murderers of the chief had threatened to kill some elders of Abor Ewusi Royal Family, who were seeking justice.

‘If the president does not intervene, we will do everything possible to protect ourselves from those killers,’ he said.
