Brand Ghana CEO, Mathias Akotia, has died


Information reaching Myjoyonline.com indicates that the Chief Executive Officer of the Brand Ghana Office, Mathias Akotia, has died.

Sources say Mr. Akotia died Saturday, August 16, 2014 in the United States, where he was receiving medical treatment.

His death was communicated to the Brand Ghana Office Monday, August 18, 2014, the source added.

The late Mathias Akotia was appointed in September, 2009, by late president John Atta Mills as the first Chief Executive Officer of the Brand Ghana Office.

He was reputed to vast experience in commercial and corporate branding.

He left behind a widow, Mrs. Charity Akotia (PhD) with whom he had four children.

The late Mathias Akotia worked  with Unilever in 1987, joined BAT and rose to become Marketing Director, BAT Central-West Africa. Prior to becoming Marketing Director, Mr. Akotia had worked for BAT-Kenya and BAT-West Africa.

He was at one time Managing Director of Pioneer Aluminum Factory, Tema. He presented papers at several prestigious forums on brands and branding in Europe, Asia and Africa and has several publications on brands and branding in peer reviewed journals.

A member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Mr. Akotia won several “Excellence” citations, culminating in the award of BAT’s prestigious Sir Albert Levy Award for Marketing Excellence.

Mr. Akotia held BSc (Management), MPhil in Business Administration and completed PhD at the University of Ghana in Internal Branding and Performance Culture.
