The Northern Region has been identified as one of the regions blessed with various natural resources ready for businesses to invest in and reap good returns.

The business community has, therefore, been urged to focus on investing in the region which has over the years recorded less than 0.1 percent of foreign investments into the country according to the Ghana Investment Promotion Authority (GIPA).

It has been observed that this does not only show the lack of attention on wealth creation in Northern Ghana but also a failure to implement the country’s development and investment policies needed to bridge the yawning developmental disparities between the north and the south.

At the launch of the third Northern Ghana Investment Conference in Tamale, Mutawakil Riyad, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ridmut Consult, disclosed that investment opportunities in Northern Ghana are enormous and the people are very accommodating.

According to him, the north is known for its vast arable land meant for commercial agricultural purposes and other viable projects as well as ready market for produce since large market centres exist in parts of the country.

This year’s event, organised in collaboration with the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA), Ministry of Trade and Industry, Ghana Investment Promotion Authority, the Northern Regional Coordinating Council and the Northern Development Forum (NDF) and other industry players, is aimed at serving as a catalyst to promoting businesses and investment in Northern Ghana.

Speakers of this year’s event include Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Abdul Nashiru Issahaku; astute Economist/politician, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia; Chief Executive Officer of Export Trade Agricultural and Industrial Fund (EDAIF), Dr Barfuor Osei and Executive Chairman of Wienco Ghana Limited, Mr Henri Wientjes.

The rest are  Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Haruna Iddrisu; Minister of Roads and Highways, Alhaji Inusah Fuseini; Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Limuna Mohammed-Muniru; Chairman of the Northern Development Forum (NDF), Dr Hakeem Weimah and Executive and Marketing Director of Agricultural Development Bank, Mr Sulley Adam.

According to the CEO of Ridmut Consult,  there would be an  investment and entrepreneurial development seminar, northern business excellence awards night in honour of the private, public and non-profit sectors including individuals, private companies, government departments and agencies and non-governmental organisations whose activities are geared towards opening  up the north to businesses.
