The Osei – Kusi Foundation (OKF) has bemoaned the continual neglect of investment into the future of the youth in the country.
According to OKF, youths in the advanced countries are making meaningful contributions to the development of their countries because of the quality investments made in them, but the same cannot not be said of the youth in Ghana.
Mr. Osei Kusi, Executive President of OKF said the youth of Ghana is faced with numerous challenges such as drug abuse, rape among others that need immediate solution to save the future of the country.
‘As a nation we need to change our perception about the youth and do more than pay a lip service about the importance of the youth in national development’.
He made this known in Accra at a press conference commemorating the International Youth Day dubbed ‘Youth and Mental Health’ under the slogan ‘Mental Health Matters’.
He noted that youth with mental health issues can often experience stigma and discrimination which in turn can lead to discouraging them from seeking help for fear of being negatively labeled.
”Efforts are needed to overcome this stigma to ensure that young people with mental health conditions can lead full and healthy lives free of isolation.”
The Executive President noted the growing phenomenon of internet fraud among the youth is a manifestation of youth neglect in the country and all hands is needed to deal with the impeding explosion.
He has therefore call on individuals, families, schools, churches, NGOs, corporate organizations as well as government to pay special attention for the development of the youth for national development.
Meanwhile, in line with the theme for these years International Youth Day, OKF has supported the Accra Psychiatric Hospital with a donation of assorted items including boxes of washing soap and a bag of maize valued at 2,000 Ghana cedis.
Receiving the items on behalf of the hospital, Dr. Pinaman Apaw, a Psychiatrist,Accra Psychiatric Hospital thanked OKF for the gesture and has called on other corporate institutions to support the hospital in their own small ways.
