Innova DDB Ghana, an advertising agency and its allied companies, have presented some food items and a cheque for an undisclosed amount of money to the Accra Psychiatric Hospital.

The agency, led by its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Joel Nettey, who is also president of the Advertisers Association of Ghana (AAG), donated bags of rice, medical supplies, sugar, soap and cooking oil, toiletries and a 2,000 litre tank.

Olivia Cudjoe, Account Group Head Innova DDB Ghana, in a remark, said the donation formed part of the company’s corporate social responsibility to inmates at the health facility.

Ms Cudjoe said the company believed that mental health conditions were not for the less privileged, misfits or under-achievers in society but every other person who stood the risk of being a victim.

The Principal Nursing Officer at the Hospital, Beatrice Nyarko, who received the items on behalf of management of Accra Psychiatric Hospital, expressed gratitude to Innova DDB for the gesture.

Ms Nyarko appealed to corporate institutions in the country to follow the example of Innova DDB and help the hospital achieve its project of reducing rehabilitated inmates in and around the hospital.

Dr Nsiah Anyetei, Deputy Director Nursing, in a comment, noted that currently the hospital has 500 inmates as a result of a special decongestion exercise by the hospital authorities.

Plans, he added, were afoot to slash the number of inmates to 200 by 2015 in a bid to enable the hospital provide effective care to inmates.

Innova DDB Ghana is a giant in advertising and marketing communications within the country’s advertising industry.

Its parent company is the DDB Worldwide Communication Group, which operates in more than 200 offices in more than 90 countries with so many awards to its credit.
