Don’t spiritualize Ebola virus; God can heal in hospitals- Rev. Opuni-Frimpong

General Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana, Rev. Dr. Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong has charged christians not to spirtualise the Ebola virus and has explained that it is not only when you go to church that God reaches out to you.

“And so we should not create impression that God can reach out to us only when people go to church. When we are in a health facility, the power of God is equally there. Instead of spiritualizing the virus; we will want people to see it as medical challenge which must attract medical attention,” he stressed.

According to him, God equally used health practitioners to glorify Himself.

The General Secretary was debunking assertions on Joy News Monday evening that it was only pastors and prayer camps, which could cure the deadly Ebola virus or any other sickness.

There have also been claims that the Ebola virus is a punishment from God Almighty and He is the only one who could cure it.

Although Rev. Opuni-Frimpong admitted that “yes, we believe that, like the Bible says; with God all things are possible”, those God is using for miracles to glorify Himself are not only those who are wearing clerical [attires] or pastors but people who are into medicine are also in ministry and God is using them.

“I must say there is nothing wrong with people activating their faith in times of challenges; in times of difficulty but we are dealing with a disease, a virus that is a health challenge and therefore people must seek medical attention and that is our position.”

He said history of the disease could be traced from 1976 in Congo and manifested in Hong Kong, Philippines, Sudan and other countries.

“So let’s accept that it is a not a punishment from God; it’s not demonic; it’s a virus and those who see the symptoms must report to health centres.”

Prayer warriors and pastors, he advised should not keep patients at their prayer camps to worsen the plights of the people.

“We should not replace what we do with what medical professionals are supposed to do,” adding, “we must pray but we must get things done right. People must go to the hospital for attention.”
