Bloodbath Looms At Larteh

Osabarima Asiedu Okoo Ababio III
OSABARIMA ASIEDU Okoo Ababio III, the chief of Larteh and Bekumhene of Akuapem Traditional Area in the Akuapem North District of the Eastern Region, has called on the security agencies, particularly the Police, to immediately avert a possible bloody clash on sunday.

The chief gave the advice after the entoolment of another chief Nana Atta Kumi.

He has also vowed to deal with Nana Okoree I and her collaborators if they outdoor Nana Atta Kumi on Sunday.

Osabarimah Ababio disclosed this in a letter with the headline ‘Disturbances at Larteh’ dated August 4, 2014 and copied to the Eastern Regional Minister, Regional Police Commander, Akropong Divisional Police Commander, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Akuapem North Assembly, Akropong District Police Commander and Inspector in charge of the Larteh Police station.

It noted that Osaberima had received information that some group of people, led by Nana Esi Okoree I, Nkosohemaa of the area, were preparing to outdoor a new chief on Sunday whilst he (Osabarimah) had not been destooled.

According to him, Nana Esi Okoree, in recent times, has transported gun wielding ‘macho’ men to Larteh, who claim to be Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) operatives.

The Larteh chief noted that the BNI operatives, who have been visiting mayhem on the people, last Saturday travelled to his palace to allegedly destool him and subsequently nominated a certain Nana Atta Kumi, who is to be outdoored on Sunday as the substantive chief for Larteh.

Osabarimah explained that the act of Nana Okoree I and her collaborators was illegal and untraditional.

The Lartehene, in the letter, stressed that he had informed the Asafo group, youth, men and women to oppose intimidation by the supposed BNI operatives.

The chief further disclosed that nobody should blame him for any skirmishes that would occur in the area, noting that he would not allow any person or group of persons to disturb the peace in the area.

Lady Tamara Reacts
The Nkosohemaa, Nana Esi Okoree, who is known in private life as Nana Esi Botsio alias Lady Tamara, noted that the chief had been destooled and would go ahead to outdoor Nana Kumi on Sunday.

According to her, she has the support of the kingmakers of the area and would ensure that the outdooring ceremony would go on as planned, accusing Osabarimah Ababio of misconduct.

Lady Tamara denied reports that the youth, who purportedly desooled the chief last Saturday, were BNI operatives.

‘These are young people who thought the way Osabarimah was steering the affairs of the area was not right,’ she stated.

She noted that she had sponsored the annual Odwira festival celebrated by the chiefs and people of the area for the past 15 years and built a palace worth over $5million.

Notwithstanding my contributions, the contributions of corporate bodies and individuals in the traditional area and beyond to support the festival have not been accounted for by the chief.

Lady Tamara stated that she advised the chief to render account to the people but he refused to do so, adding that the destooled Omanhene also refused to perform outstanding rites that qualify him to be the Aheneasehene and subsequently Akuapem Benkumhene.

Lady Tamara hinted that the new chief would be outdoored on Sunday in a peaceful manner.

She stated that nobody would cause any harm or stop the kingmakers from outdooring the new chief.
