The disgraced politician, who returned from the United after serving a 10-year prison sentence for illegal drug trafficking, is in the grips of Ghana Police for allegedly possessing a lady’s passport, which was fraudulently acquired.

Mr. Amoateng was whisked by security personnel just when his flight touched down at the Kotoka Airport and has been in detention since.

However, Luv FM’s James Hemans reports Friday that the people of Nkoranza, where Mr. Amoateng hails from, say they will do all they can, to ensure he walks a free man.

They claimed, but for the generosity of the man who represented the Nkoranza North Constituency, hundreds of young people from the area would have seen their dreams of making a better future crushed.

Eric Amoateng is considered “a great farmer and philanthropist” in the Nkoranza District of the Brong Ahafo Region, James Hemans narrated on the Super Morning Show on Joy FM.

According to him, hundreds of people including his father, who gathered at the residence of the ex-convict to celebrate his return from jail, were disappointed when news reached them that Mr. Amoateng had been detained by the authorities for yet another criminal offence.

Maame Yaa Gyanbea is step-mum who took care of Mr. Amoateng during his days at the secondary school and Training College.

An uncle of his who spoke to the reporter said, they were yet to be informed about the reason for their son’s detention.

Apart from being a politician until his arrest in 2005, Mr. Eric Amoateng also worked as a teacher and as marketing manager for a company Koajay, which bought and distributed school supplies.

He was also the chief (king) of Amoma, a town in the Kintampo South District of the Brong Ahafo Region, with the title Nana Amoateng Ameyaw II.
