Amoateng Granted Bail


Ex-convict, Eric Amoateng, who is facing allegations of fraudulent acquisition of passport following his release from an American jail, has been granted bail.

He was released on a bail of GH₵200,000 with three sureties to justify. He was also asked to report to police twice a week — Mondays and Fridays — and deposit the alleged fruaudulent passport with the court.

The embattled former Nkoransa North MP was picked up Thursday at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) after serving a 10-year jail sentence in the United States for illegally trafficng narcotics.

He had been pleading for legal representation, after what looked like neglect from his New Patriotic Party members since his return to Ghana.

Mr Amoateng was picked immediately he touched down at the airport by officials of the Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) for a debriefing session.

He was subsequently detained by the police who accuse him of using a passport acquired fraudulently.

Kwakye Afreh Nuamah reports that officials of the CID have been meeting with the Attorney-General’s Department on how to prosecute the matter.
