Thugs destroy EC registration equipment at Manhyia


Two unidentified men, according to reports reaching Myjoyonline.com Thursday afternoon invaded an Electoral Commission registration centre in Manhyia, Kumasi and destroyed the registration equipment.

The incident occurred at about 12:30, while registration was ongoing at the Boukrom Town Council, Manhyia North.

An eyewitness, who wants to remain anonymous, told Myjoyonline.com that the thugs came on a motorbike and one entered the venue to destroy the registration kit.

According to him, the person quickly jumped onto the waiting bike which brought him and sped off. The registration kit is made up of a laptop, fingerprint scanner, webcam and a mobile printer.

The two also made away with one external battery used to charge the mobile kit, the eyewitness added.

“They just entered the centre and whack the kit on the ground. One on the motor bike and the other game in to do that act affter which they rode away. Virtually every component in the kit is spoilt,” the eyewitness narrated.

He added that the unfortunate incident has disrupted activities at the registration centre.

The supervisor at the registration centre, Aaron Quarcoe, confirmed the incident to Myjoyonline.com.
