Six arrested over killing of Prophetess, CPP Chair

Six young men have been arrested by the Accra Police for the alleged murder of Prophetess Agnes Koomson last week at Sowutuom, Accra.

They are Yaw Dodzi Awudu 29, Yusif Seidu 23 and Solomon Lamptey (Raja) 25. The rest are Sumaila Ayittey 18, Richard Avor 26 and Daniel Nii Lamptey 20 years.

According to Accra Region Police Commander, DCOP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, two more suspects are on the run.

The six whom police described as hardened criminals, are also said to be behind last month’s gruesome murder of the UK Chairman of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Mr Hayford Akrofi at his residence at Ofankor in Accra. They are also suspected for the robbing and murder of a woman at the Kasoa office of MTN in the Central Region.

Addressing the media in Accra Monday, August 4, 2014, DCOP Christian Tetteh Yohuno said the suspects who operate in between Accra and the Central Regions, use children of their victims as decoys to rob and kill their parents.

‘When they enter your house they hold your children as hostage and force them to shout for and call their parents that they are sick so they should come and attend to them. When you [parents] come out they will rob and kill you,’ DCOP Yohuno told journalists.

The Police Commander therefore advised parents to be mindful of new techniques used by robbers and also fortify the apartments of their children to prevent robbers from breaking in.

He mentioned Swedru and Oda in the Eastern Region as ‘safe haven’ for the gang and called on the local police to be watchful and alert.
