Rape Victim Breaks Silence

Mensah Woode, allegedly raped the lady to the point of paralysis at his residence at Middle-East in Ashaiman near Tema in the Greater Accra Region.

According to the victim, a 22-year-old first-year university student, the suspect never proposed love to her before the incident occurred, even though they had been friends for some time.

The victim, in an exclusive interview with DAILY GUIDE , expressed shock and debunked rumours making the rounds at the Tema Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service that she had been having an affair with Dr. Woode, who is currently in police custody, pending trial at the Tema Magistrate Court.

She stated that Woode, whom the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) rejected as surgeon and paramedic specialist, never made love to her until she was raped.

According to her, as a mature university student, she knows and understands what rape means, adding that her consent was not sought by Dr. Woode – something police confirmed Dr. Woode admitted during interrogation.

She explained that she had been to the house of the suspect twice – the second visit was when she was raped.

‘The first time, the doctor did not touch me and that convinced me that he was an honest person, but it was the second time when the unfortunate incident occurred,’ she stated.

Touching further on how the incident occurred, the victim narrated that on July 14, 2014 at about 8:00 pm, she was invited by the doctor and so they met at the Tema Motorway Roundabout and together went to his house.

The doctor, she said, left her alone in the house and returned at midnight – when there was no vehicle for her to go back to her hostel at Dawhenya along the Tema-Aflao road.

According to her, Dr. Woode asked her to pass the night in his residence but she insisted of going to the hostel. This, she said,   angered the doctor who locked the doors and told her that not until she had passed the night in his residence he wouldn’t allow her to leave.

She added that ‘Because it was my second time of visiting him and I trusted him, I obliged and decided to stay in the living room and watch television programmes.

The victim claimed that Dr. Woode went out again and upon his return, dragged her from the couch, started fondling her and sent her to the bedroom where he pinned her to the bed and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.

After the purported sex escapade, the victim asserted, Dr. Woode fell asleep and at about 4:30 am he woke up and took the victim in his vehicle to the Tema Motorway roundabout where he gave some money to the driver who sent her to the hostel.

She explained that when a police medical report form was issued to her to attend hospital at Urban Health, a lady-doctor on duty refused to attend to her saying the case was involving a fellow doctor.

She claimed she went to the Tema General Hospital where she was examined and treated.
