Mahama Leaves For US-Africa Summit Today


President John Dramani Mahama will, later today, leave for the United States of America (USA) to attend the US-Africa Leaders Summit.

The President is being accompanied by first lady, Lordina Mahama, along with the Ministers for Finance, Energy, Trade and Foreign Affairs.

While in the USA, President Mahama will, among other things, sign the second compact of the Millennium Challenge Corporation which will make available over $500 million to support the energy sector.

Presidential Spokesperson, Ben Dotsei Malor, who disclosed this to the media, indicated that the President will participate in three key sessions which include; ‘investing in Africa’s future, Peace and Regional Stability and Governing for the Next Generation.’

He assured that the 10-day trip will be very beneficial to Ghana stressing that ‘it is for the good of Ghana.’

The President and his entourage are scheduled to be back in Ghana on August 10.

In the absence of President Mahama, the Vice President, Kwesi Amissah-Arthur will act in his stead.

The summit, which is on the theme ‘Investing in the Next Generation,’ is aimed at advancing the US administration’s focus on trade and investment in Africa.

African leaders will have an opportunity to engage with President Obama, his Cabinet members, and other key leaders, including business executives from the U.S. and Africa, Members of Congress, and members of the civil society.
