Crucial Decisions Reached At GFA EXCO Meeting

The Executive Committee of the Ghana Football Association had a two-day meeting to deliberate on key issues affecting the game in the country.

The body met the new Sports Minister Honourable Mahama Ayariga on Thursday to welcome him to the ministry and to assure him of full support in his tenure of office.

The Executive Committee also revealed to Honourable Ayariga that the GFA will facilitate the transmission of government’s opinion to FIFA on the setting up of a commission to investigate the Black Stars failure at the World Cup.

This comes after FIFA queried the GFA on the setting up of the commission, resulting in the Minister asking for government’s opinion to be added to the federation’s response to the world governing body’s letter.

The Executive Committee also assured the government of the GFA’s commitment to using part of the proceeds from the World Cup for development of lasting sports facilities across the country.

On issues affecting the GFA, the Executive Committee has started negotiations with Puma over the extension of the apparel contract which expires in December.

Tentatively the GFA Congress has been scheduled for 28th August with the start of the First Capital Plus Preimer League pencilled for 21 September pending the approval of congress.

There will also be a seminar for clubs on the Club Licensing System on 27th August with another seminar on electronic registration of players to be done before the start of the season.
