Metro Mass Transit To Increase Fleet

The Metro Mass Transit Service is acquiring over 200 more buses to augment its current fleet as demand for its services increase following recent hike in private transport fares.

The company has maintained fares despite repeated upward adjustment of fuel price since the beginning of the year.

Frequent breakdown of the buses makes it difficult for the company to meet its maximum operational capacity.

Currently MMTS has 750 buses are operational with over 300 grounded across the country.

Managing Director, Noble John Appiah, acknowledges the growing demand for the company’s service is natural under the current economic challenges.

He tells Luv News the new buses being procured by government are expected to arrive in October this year.

‘We have plans underway to procure 200 more buses to complement the over 700 we already have. the move comes to deepen our peri-urban operations and some of the buses will be plying our major cities’ He revealed.’

Mr. Appiah told a midyear review session in Kumasi other measures are being pursued to breathe life into the company.
