Arrest Betty! Over Woyome – Ken Agyapong

Madam Betty Mould-Iddrisu was the Attorney-General who ordered the payment of GH¢52 million to businessman and known financier of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Alfred Woyome, as judgment debt over the construction of some stadia for the CAN 2008 tournament.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court, in a review application, unanimously ruled that Woyome was not entitled to a dime and therefore the money he had received should be refunded.

Kennedy Agyapong
Ken Agyapong said the latest Supreme Court ruling was a vindication of his position that the whole deal was cooked up, insisting that ‘she has taken Ghanaians for fools, for those who did not deserve to be paid money were unlawfully paid huge judgment debts.’

Addressing a mammoth rally at Drugs Store Lane in the Central Business District of Accra on Tuesday, and subsequently carried on various radio networks across the capital including Adom Fm yesterday, Mr Agyapong described Betty Mould-Iddrisu as ‘the most corrupt woman you can ever find on earth.’

He insisted that the matter should not end with an order for the money to be refunded, but ‘Betty Mould Iddrisu should also be arrested. She used illegal means to pay the money.’

He recalled how he was vilified when he started making noise about the Woyome scandal, with people including the ruling NDC government trying to use various means to silence him.

Justification
The NPP MP justified his description with claims of having correspondences between the former A-G and former Finance Minister, Dr Kwabena Duffuor, in which they engaged in a back-and-forth argument and Betty even proceeded to insult the former Finance Minister in the correspondence.

He said Betty did not deserve any freedom because she facilitated the GH¢51.2 million payment made to Woyome.

The Assin Central MP also pointed to the Yamoransa-Ahnwia Nkwanta road which Construction Pioneers (CP) failed to execute, but came up to demand judgment debt which she gladly obliged and paid without hesitation or proper investigations into their claims, as another alleged fraudulent deal.

‘This woman went ahead and negotiated with CP and paid €94million’, he emphasized.

He describe Betty and the current 1st Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Ebo Barton-Odro who was then her Deputy, as thieves, while asking the latter to do the honourable thing by resigning from his post.

Ken Agyapong disclosed that the basis for his call for Barton-Odro’s resignation was the fact that the latter had insisted that the state did not have a case when the issue became public, only to be rewarded with the position of Deputy Speaker of Parliament.

‘There is no truth in Parliament today because you have people such as Barton-Odro in the House; he should resign and bow down his head in shame,’ he stated.

Ken was of the firm belief that Parliament as an institution would continue to lose its credibility with people like Barton-Odro holding such high positions in the House.

Eulogy
The Assin Central MP was full of praise for Martin Alamisi Benz Kaiser Amidu, the man who took over from Betty-Mould Iddrisu and took the Woyome case to court after being booted out of government, describing him as a true patriot.

He stressed the need for national honours to be conferred on Mr Amidu, also known as ‘Citizen Vigilante’, for his commitment to protect the public purse.

For the fact that the Supreme Court had ordered Woyome to pay back the money to the state, Ken Agyapong, whose fighting spirit earned him the nickname ‘Akompreko’ said, ‘Today, I’m the happiest person alive.

‘It is because of some of these wars I’ve been waging that they decided to charge me with trumped-up charges of treason since they considered me a threat to the government,’ he noted.
