Ghanaians Protest In Washington DC

The demonstrators in Washington DC
SCORES OF angry Ghanaians on Wednesday morning hit the streets of Washington DC, U.S to demonstrate against the current Mahama administration under the theme, ‘Occupy Ghana Embassy’.

The frustrated Ghanaians protested against the mismanagement of the country’s economy by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.

The demonstration was christened, ‘Ghanaians Bad Governance,’ Lawyer Akolaste, one of the leaders of the group who organised the historic event, told Don Dada of Otec FM in Kumasi.

There have been a series of demonstrations against the Mahama administration in recent times due to the harsh economic conditions in the country.

The latest nationwide demonstration was held by Organised Labour on Thursday.

The protest in Washington DC would hit the NDC government hard because it exposed the rot in government.

One of the placards
DAILY GUIDE gathered that Ghanaians in that country, who were clad in mourning cloth and sang war songs, marched through the streets of the city to register their displeasure with the NDC government.

Most of the protestors held placards, which had inscriptions boldly displayed, Lawyer Akolatse said, adding that the event was peaceful.

He said some of the inscriptions read ‘Are we still at first gear,’ ‘Corruption Abere,’ ‘Cedi Abere’ ‘Ghana Abre’, ‘Step Up or Step Out’ ‘Depreciation of the Cedi,’ ‘Accountability is all we ask for’ and ‘Depreciation of leadership’, among others.

Lawyer Akolatse said Ghanaians in the Diaspora, notably those in the US, were saddened about the appalling manner in which President Mahama and the NDC were managing the affairs of the country.

Hardship is gradually being accepted in Ghana due to the government’s poor showing, according to him.

Lawyer Akolatse said the protestors want the whole world to know that Ghanaians were living like ‘slaves’ in their own land.

He entreated Ghanaians back home and across the world to constantly hit the streets to demonstrate against the NDC administration to ensure an improvement in the lives of the people.

Lawyer Akolatse said his group would also present a petition to the Ghana Embassy in the US on the matter.
