Fake Nurse Gets 6 Months

An unemployed woman who posed as a nurse at the 37 military Hospital to facilitate her travel to America, was yesterday sentenced to 6 months in prison by an Accra Circuit Court.

The accused, Evelyn Adoma, had pleaded not guilty to both counts of false declaration and impersonation.

However the court, presided over by Mrs.
Vivian Ellen Amoah, after full trial found the accused guilty of the offence and sentenced her accordingly.

Evelyn was jailed for 3 and 6 months respectively for the offences of false declaration and impersonation to run concurrently.

At the initial stages of the trial, Chief Inspector Patience Egyapong told the court that on April 6, 2012, the American Embassy in Accra received information from the United States of America that the accused had fraudulently secured an American visa into the United States and that she was being deported to Ghana.

She said the US embassy officials alerted the police in Ghana and she was arrested on arrival.

According to prosecution, during interrogation, it came to light that the accused had presented herself as a military nurse working at the Ghana Armed Forces Station at the 37 Military Hospital. She allegedly claimed that she lived at 12 Nogahill barracks, Air Force base Headquarters at Burma camp.

Chief Inspector Egyapong further indicated that the accused in a statement admitted that she was not a military nurse working at the 37 Military Hospital.

She allegedly disclosed that one Kwaku Boakye had assisted her to pose as an army officer to facilitate her visa acquisition online.

The police officer said that Evelyn however refused to lead the police to arrest her said accomplice.
