Zabzugu (N/R), July 24, GNA – Zabzugu District Assembly, on Thursday organised a training programme on HIV and AIDS for Peer Educators in the junior and senior high schools in the District.

This was part of the district’s response initiative on reducing the HIV and AIDS menace.

Mr Issifu Alidu Laa-Bandow, District Chief Executive, asked the trainees to take the programme seriously so that they could expose their peers to their expertise.

He said the district organised the programme because students are the future leaders of the district, hence the need to expose them to the dangers associated with HIV and AIDS.

He pledged the assembly’s commitment to contribute its 0.5 per cent of the mandatory contribution of the district’s share of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) in order to organise such programmes to help reduce the spread of the disease.

The peer educators were taking through the causes and prevention of sexually transmitted Infection’s, HIV and AIDS and other related diseases.

The training was facilitator by Mr Mohammed Abdulai Malle, Principal Physician Assistant at the District Hospital and the District HIV and AIDS Focal Person, Mr Seth Afful.

The training was financed by Ghana AIDS Commission and the assembly’s contribution from its share of the third quarter of the 2013 DACF.
