The Member of Parliament (MP) for Mampong, Francis Addai-Nimoh has called on parents and teachers to encourage children to be patriotic.
The MP, who chaired the 14 th graduation ceremony of Queen’s International at East Legon, Accra recently, disclosed this in his closing remarks.
The MP bemoaned corruption in government and other places and stressed the need for parents and guardians to sustain the Ghanaian identity.
He also suggested the introduction of citizenship education in the basic school curriculum, among others, adding that children should be able to question their parent’s source of income.
The MP, who is an aspiring flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), noted that corruption was destroying the state.
The headmaster of the school, Theodore Tona, for his part, was happy that the school was able to achieve its set goals in academic and other social interventions for the 2013/14 academic year.
He said the school’s success story for the year informed the decision to choose the theme, ‘Developing a responsible citizen, with critical sense of duty towards National Development and Growth.’
The headmaster stated that the school, which has over the years built a track record to provide excellent education for pupils, also won a Gold Cup, trophy and medals and was crowned Best Chess Player School of the season.
The CEO of Challenge Enterprises Ghana, Immanuel Kofi Agamah, donated a number of books to the school.
The CEO explained that the donation was to encourage the children to imbue the reading habit.
