Cop Dies In Gory Crash

The accident happened when the motorbike the police constable was riding crashed into the side of a Hyundai salon car at about 11:00 pm on Friday, killing him on the spot.

DAILY GUIDE learnt that the gory accident had also left one Constable Tetteh Kudjoe, who was sitting behind the deceased on the motorbike, in a serious condition at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital in Sekondi where he was sent for medical attention.

According to an eyewitness, the two police men were on the motorbike from the Takoradi market circle and heading towards the Paa Grant Roundabout while the Hyundai salon car was also from the Monkey Hill area to the market circle.

DAILY GUIDE gathered that when the Hyundai reached the Star of the Sea Cathedral area and was turning to the Ahenfie Hotel lane of the road, it was crashed into by the motorbike.

According to sources, immediately after the accident, the driver of the Hyundai salon car sped off and abandoned the vehicle around Chapel Hill School junction – about 20 minutes’ drive from where the accident occurred, with the ignition key on.

The police were later able to trace the car, which is currently at the Takoradi Central Police Station with the driver still at large.

The police had not given any indications as to what really caused the accident, but said that the body of the deceased had been deposited at the morgue of the Effia-Nkwanta Hospital.

Some eyewitnesses, however, attributed the accident to excessive speeding on the part of the salon car driver.

When contacted, Supt. Peter Ofori Donkor, Takoradi District Police Commander, confirmed the accident to DAILY GUIDE and stressed that the two police officers were on their routine night duty when the tragic incident occurred.

He pointed out that the police were still looking for the driver while investigations into the accident were under way.
