Chief Executive of Stratcomm Africa Esther A. N. Cobbah on Monday delivered this year’s motivational statement to the 2014 Milead Fellows during the opening ceremony of the Moremi Institute currently going on at the Institute of African Studies, Legon, Accra.
The event, chaired by Mrs. Betty Mould Iddrisu, former Attorney General was attended by the 28 young female leaders drawn from all over Africa as well as distinguished personalities such as Dr. Angela El Adas, Director General of the Ghana Aids Commission, Mrs. Penelope Mawuenyega, a legal practitioner and Founder of 40 Roses Initiative, Mr. Patrick Akorli, the Chief Executive of Goil among others.
Other speakers at the ceremony included, Madam Dzifa Gormashie, Deputy Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Deputy Minister for Gender, Children & Social Protection Mr. John Alexander Ackon, as well as the Head of UNAIDS in Ghana, Mr. Girmay Haile.
Ms. Cobbah encouraged the young ladies to use their ability to serve as women to achieve positions of leadership.
‘The willingness to serve confers even greater power in leadership’ she said and added, ‘it is my firm conviction that women, being generally models of the commitment to serve, must increasingly take up the mantle of leadership in different contexts in society and show the greater effectiveness of this approach to leadership’.
Ms. Cobbah advised the young women to be perceptive about human needs and take transformational initiatives that address these needs.
The Moremi Institute last year, invited Ms. Cobbah to speak to the 2013 fellows and adopted the title of her speech, ‘The Power to Lead, A Commitment to Serve’ as the theme for the session this year.
Honorable Dzifa Gomarshie, Deputy Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts also used the opportunity to advise the fellows to use the platform positively to affect change in their community and country at large.
She urged the fellows to draw inspiration from seasoned women leaders in Africa and placed the need for them to strive to be themselves and the best they can be.
Mr. Mawuli Dake, the driving force behind Moremi Institute described his efforts as an investment in leadership development in Africa. He shared the challenges associated with pursuing the initiative and paid glowing tribute to various organizations and selfless volunteers that continue to believe in and support the initiative.
The 28 African ladies ranging between 19 – 25years will be in Ghana for the next three weeks going through leadership training
