Mahama Letter Pops Up

President John Mahama
DAILY GUIDE has in its possession a letter said to have been the infamous ‘Green Letter’ from President John Mahama to his staffers at the Flagstaff House, which has sent them scrambling for cover.

The letter dated July 4, 2014 and signed personally by the President, is alleged to be a subtle notice to his aides and advisors that he would soon embark on a mass sacking and reassignment.

The letter titled, ‘Portfolios of Presidential Staffers,’ thanked the staffers for their services.

‘May I use this opportunity to express my profound gratitude for the service you have rendered to the nation in your various positions as staffers in the Office of the President,’ it stated.

‘I intend in the near future to make certain changes and/or re-assignment of portfolios in the Office of the President. Please stand by, as the changes will be communicated to you in due course,’ the President informed his teeming staffers.

However, the president prayed that the affected people would have the strong will to stomach the repercussions of his action.

‘It is in my prayer that God will grant you the grace to apply yourself diligently and effectively to whatever position or situation you find yourself in,’ he said, preparing the minds of those who may be relieved of their duties for the attendant shocks.

Critics have blamed the President’s advisors and aides for partly being responsible for the state of confusion confronting the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as it parries accusations of corruption, bad governance and general mismanagement of the Ghanaian economy; a situation that has driven the country into dire economic straits.

Uncertainties
Sources close to the Flagstaff House indicate that the letter has created extreme uncertainty at the seat of government as aides and advisors await their fate.

It is unclear when the President intends to begin his ‘house-cleaning’ exercise, since the letter has failed to give any timeline.

Prominent staffers at the presidency who may be swept by the dreaded reshuffle include senior advisors like Dr. Nii Moi Thompson, Stanislav Xoese Dogbe, Dr. Clement Apaak and Dr. Michael Kpesah Whyte, who are all said to have been served with the notice.

Others including Ben Dotsei Malor, the Director of Communications at the Presidency who was only recently handed his appointment and James Agyenim Boateng, a special aide to Vice President Amissah Arthur have all been given their letters.

Meanwhile, sources indicate that some veterans in the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) including Dr Kwesi Botchwey, former Finance Minister; Dr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, former minister of Communications; and Nana Ato Dadzie, a former Chief of Staff, are expected to surface in the new scheme of things in President Mahama’s realigned administration at the Presidency.

Others expected to make a comeback include the former Minority Leader of the NDC in Parliament and former Minister of Health, Alban Sumana Bagbin and Nene Mike Gizo, the former Minister of Tourism in the erstwhile Jerry Rawlings administration.
