Royal Philips has embarked on a four-kilometer walk in Accra.

The walk is the first in a series of events to be held in the country by the multinational, which focuses on energy-efficient lighting and the revitalization of African healthcare infrastructure.

The annual pan-African Cairo to Cape Town Road Show is an important event during which Philips visits 10 cities in Africa and engages partners and consumers on how its products and innovations can be used to solve their problems.

It also forms part of the company’s approach to fulfilling its commitment to significantly expand its business in Africa in the coming years while enhancing life with meaningful innovations.

‘As investment demand continues to grow in most of Africa, we are very positive about expanding our business footprint on the continent. In the past decade, six of the 10 fastest growing economies in the world were in Africa; Philips is therefore aiming for double digit growth in the coming years,’ said JJ Van Dongen, Senior Vice President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Philips Africa.

‘Local entrepreneurship and talent development continue to be key in addressing the complexities of the African market and in developing locally relevant innovations that meet the needs of Africa’s growing middle-class,’ he added.

Philips West Africa General Manager, Abdallah Khamis, commenting on the walk, said it was to improve the health and fitness of the public.
