A 40-year-old man Isah Makeri, has been sentenced to a four-year jail term without an option of fine for raping a nine-year-old girl by a Kontagora High Court for raping a nine-year-old girl.
In the case which lasted about six months, Resident Counsel, Abubakar Suleiman, tendered exhibits and were all upheld by the presiding judge, Justice Yusuf Tanko Usman.
Before pronouncing his judgment on the convict, the judge had asked him whether he had a plea to mitigate the sentence but instead he pleaded guilty to the one-count charge of unlawful intercourse with the teenager and asked for pardon.
Justice Usman, therefore, convicted him under Section 283 of the Penal Code.
