Christopher Wesson ‘‘Chris Bosh’’ was the “head tutor” of the 2014 SpriteBall Basketball clinic over the weekend.
The Miami Heat forward was in Ghana as part of NBA Africa’s partnership with Coca-Cola Company and the Ghana Basketball Association and held sessions with teenagers from selected senior high schools.
This year’s SpriteBall clinic provided Chris Bosh a unique opportunity to interact, teach and share his experiences with players and fans in Ghana.
The session in Accra was held at the Aviation Social Centre on Friday 12th July, 2014 while teenagers in the Central Region experienced Bosh at the Adisadel College on Saturday 13th July, 2014.
Speaking at the press conference in Accra, Bosh expressed his delight at being in Ghana and ready to share his experience with young basketball talents in Africa.
“First of all, I would like to thank the Ghana Basketball Association, Sprite, NBA Africa for giving me the opportunity to come here. I did not get such an opportunity to be spoken to by an NBA star but you here are very lucky to have this chance. You have a special opportunity to play this game.
‘‘You have the potential to be very good basketball players and that is good. Basketball is the best game in the world and you must love it and practise very hard. Basketball can do so many great things for you. Never be afraid to dream’’.
He continued to explain how basketball had opened the door for him to a better life.
The two times NBA champion also used the opportunity to visit the US ambassador to Ghana in Accra, Hoops Care foundation and the Elima Castle in Cape Coast.
At the end of the two-day exciting clinic, NBA Africa will select two players to represent Ghana at the 2014 Basketball without Borders in South Africa. Chris Bosh leaves Accra for Johannesburg later today
