4 To Die By Hanging For Criminal Conspiracy And Armed Robbery

Four convicts were sentenced to death by hanging for criminal conspiracy and armed robbery.

An Ilorin High Court has sentenced four armed robbers, Ibrahim Olayiwola, Abdulwaheed Aliyu, Tunde Kareem and Omotayo Isah to death by hanging.

During the trial it was established that the four convicts conspired among themselves and robbed the petroleum attendants of Rockfield Petroleum Filling Station at gunpoint, Odota, Ilorin on February 18, 2011, contrary to the provisions of Section 97 of the Penal Code and Section 1 (2) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special provisions) Act, CAP R11 Laws of Federation of Nigeria 2004.

Although the councils to the accused pleaded the alibi, the court rejected it on the ground that the alibi of the police station was not part of the pleas. Justice S. T. Umar agreed with the lead prosecution counsel, M.A.I Akande, that the prosecution has proved its case against the convicts beyond reasonable doubt.
