School Feeding Programme Still Going Strong

Deputy National Coordinator of Ghana School Feeding Programme Charles Antwi Kyeremeh has debunked claims that the programme has failed under the NDC government. He described the claims as unfortunate and borne out of propaganda and mischief.

Mr. Antwi said, the programme now covers about 1,72100 schools as against the initial number of 5000 left behind by the NPP government. He assured that the enrollment percentage is expected to increase at the end of 2015.

The coordinator continued that there are now competent cooks who provide moreish nutritional diet for school children has elevated completely nutritional associated sickness that was rampant at the initial part of the programme.

He revealed that in order to sustain and strengthen this component, there has been an agreement with a UK based ‘Bill and Gates Foundation’ to support the nutritional component of the School Feeding Programme.

He said the programme has also partnered Ministry of Health to deworm school children once every year to prevent them malnourished related diseases.

Mr. Antwi mentioned that the programme has ensured that caterers buy from local farmers to ensure increase in domestic food production.

There have been claims of mismanagement of both National and Local projects by the current administration with some suggesting that the the government has finally staged a ‘coup de grace’ on projects such as National Health Insurance Scheme, Metro Mass Transport System, Affordable Houses, School Feeding

The Deputy National Coordinator is however surprised at the claims but believes Ghanaians are now being fed with propaganda politics. He thinks people should rather help government with alternative innovative ideas.
