The Member of Parliament (MP) for Nsawam/Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, on Republic Day, July 1, organised health screening for his constituents at Nsawam with some other people travelling from neighbouring constituencies like Upper West Akim and Ayensuano to undergo the screening free of charge.

The health screening was done in collaboration with Golden Hour Foundation, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) for medical outreach which provided health personnel for the screening and Blue Cross Foundation, another NGO which provided drugs for the exercise.

Speaking to DAILY GUIDE on the rationale behind the screening, the MP said health issues have become huge challenge for the people of Nsawam/Adoagyiri and therefore decided to use the occasion to create awareness for regular check-ups by the constituents.

He said that Nsawam is currently experiencing population explosion because of its closeness to the nation’s capital with many people in Accra now re-settling at Nsawam since accommodation is cheaper and standard of living lower in the municipality.

‘Nsawam was previously having serious challenges with sanitation and with the movement of people from Accra to the place the situation has been compounded with refuse all over the place,’ he said.

He said to help avert any health calamity; he would be leading clean-up campaigns in the various suburbs of Nsawam and Adoagyiri.

According to Hon Annoh-Dompreh, he has personally assisted in expanding the Adoagyiri Clinic while the out-patient department of the Nsawam Government Hospital has also undergone rehabilitation under his sponsorship.

‘Nsawam Government Hospital is an important health facility for the people of the Nsawam municipality, the Akuapem South Distrct and the Ayensuano District and therefore the government ought to ensure that the hospital is well-resourced to provide health services to people from the three districts,’ he said.
