Man Steals His Girlfriend N3,000, This Is What The Court Did

A 29-year-old man, Thomas Abu who was charged with theft of N3,000 was on Monday discharged by a Grade 1 Area Court in Aso Pada, Mararaba.

The prosecutor, Enumaje told the court that Comfort James who resides in the same address as the accused, her boyfriend had lodged a complaint against him at the Aso Pada Police Station on 13 May.

He said the accused stole the money when he visited his girlfriend in her house on 11 May, which later led to his arrest and the said amount was found with him and was arraigned on May 20.

“She went out to buy some fish and tomatoes at a nearby shop and the accused took N3,000 from her purse that was on the bed without her consent.”

Abu, however, pleaded guilty to the charge, saying: “I don’t know why I did it; I think it is the handiwork of the devil. Please forgive me, I will never do it again,” he pleaded.

The case was struck out by Judge, Albert Maga, after the prosecutor, Cpl Friday Enumaje, told the court that he was unable to locate the complainant.

The judge said: “This is a case of theft brought by the Commissioner of Police; the prosecution has failed to produce any witness in the matter as they could not locate the complainant.

“I hereby invoke Section 165 of the Criminal Procedure Code to strike out the matter and discharge the accused for want of diligent prosecution” .

Judge Maga further advised Maga to stop committing crime rather he should be close to God.
