Hon. Thomas Ampem Nyarko, the District Chief Executive of Asuogyaman in the Eastern Region has described the demonstration by a group calling itself Concerned Ghanians for Responsible Governance, CGRG, as needless since President Mahama is not “economic magician to just change the economic fortunes of the country overnight”.
He explained that, the President cannot be unaware of the economic challenges facing the country that is why he has put all the needed measures in place to fix the challenges in both short and long terms, adding that, these measures cannot yield the needed results within the twinkle of an eye.
The DCE made this known when he was addressing grievances of NDC supporters at Akosombo, after during a clean up exercise and donation of assorted items to the VRA Hospital at Akosombo.
The Whats Up demo comprised of hundreds of demonstrators clad in red dresses and hand band pitched camp, of non – partisan Concerned Ghanians for Responsible Governance (CGRG) on Tuesday marched to petition President John Mahama on what they described as there has been the worsening economic conditions in the country.
The demonstration coincided with the celebration of Ghana’s 54th Republic Day, July 1 – the day that the country totally liberated itself from British Colonial rule, dubbed ‘Occupy Flagstaff House’, the organizers say every Ghanaian deserved to be happy and are tired of talking about hardship but many have questioned the rationale behind the protest since most of the demonstrators were middle class citizens, came in their cars, ate at Afrikiko in their numbers and were notable figures in opposition.
But, the Asuogyaman DCE continued that despite the the economic challenges facing the country, the government has not relented on its responsibility of ensuring development across the country.
Hon Ampeh Nyarko Jnr noted that a number of developmental projects have been completed while others were ongoing, as he recounted a number of projects executed in the Asuogyaman district ever since he was appointed as DCE.
