Ade Coker Jabs Mahama Over Afriyie Ankrah

The public outcry on Ghana’s disastrous world cup appearance will seem to continue for many months to come since many believe justice has been denied the Ghanaian tax-payer. Prominent among critics of government’s handling of the aftermath of the Black Stars poor showing at the world cup is a the Greater Accra regional chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress, Mr. Ade Coker who described Ghana’s participation as not only shambolic but also “catastrophic showing” managed by “greedy conspirators”.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, the ace football administrator lamented on how government will allow for a nation’s destiny to rest solely in the hands of the sport minister and the FA president. According to Mr. Ade Coker, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah has no administrative acumen and experience to manage what is considered to be the passion of the nation. “With daily complains from citizens on the worsening economic situation in the country, government has lost the opportunity to use the Black Stars to unite the country. An outstanding showing of the stars in Brazil could have swayed citizen’s attention from the ever worsening economic situation, and that will have helped our party”, he averred.

Ade Coker also took a swipe at President Mahama on his awful decision to reshuffle Elvis Afriyie Ankrah in to the Flagstaff house considering the copious corruption allegations leveled against him. Recounting a similar situation during the early term of former president John Kuffour when $46,000 to be used as winning bonus for the Black Stars in Sudan got missing, the then Minister of Youth & Sport, Mallam Yussif Issah was fired, investigated and imprisoned for causing financial loss to the state.

“Why then President Mahama not follow similar trend to allow for Afriyie Ankrah to step aside from government and to allow for a thorough unhindered investigation to be conducted into the activities leading to the World cup fiasco”, Ade Coker lamented. ” There is no show of responsibility and sensitivity to the plight of Ghanaians on the part of the President, if the Sport minister remains in government while investigation is conducted”.

According to the NDC big wig, with the quality of players Ghana has, the Black Stars could have broken the African jinx had more experience and competent individuals handle the FA and the Sport ministry rather than self-seeking nation wreckers.

On the way forward, Mr. Ade Coker opined that, to serve as a deterrent to other government appointees, the Sport Minister must be fired outright and not to be shielded at the Presidency. “Moving Afriyie Ankrah to Minister of State at the Presidency can only be likened to hiding a criminal from mob justice and this is gross irresponsibility on part of the President and government considering the height of allegations”.

The outspoken Ade Coker had previously asked for heads to roll while speaking to Kwami Sefa Kayi on ‘Kokrokoo’ on Peace FM.
