Rabito Clinic, a leading private hospital with specialty in dermatology, has launched its 40 th anniversary with a call on doctors to take special interest in the study of the hair, nails, skin and its diseases.

Prof Edmund Nminyem Delle, founder of Rabito Clinic, giving his address at the media launch of the anniversary said there is currently very little interest among medical practitioners to specialise in dermatology, as the whole of the West African sub-region has only 400 dermatologists.

‘Dermatology is a wide field and we have just scratched the surface so we need more doctors to be interested in this field,’ he told journalists.

To this end, Prof Delle said the hospital is in the process of finalising the establishment of a college of dermatology to help train medical staff with proper orientation towards providing total healthcare with special emphasis in the area of dermatology.

‘In line with this, I am pleased to announce that we have begun the process of establishment of a specialised university to be known as the University College of Dermatology. We have completed the registration process and are only awaiting accreditation by the National Accreditation Board to fully take off,’ he stated.

The university, he said, would focus on both graduate and undergraduate programmes in dermatology and would help demystify the study of dermatology among medical students.

Prof Delle also mentioned that the hospital has over the past 40 years worked towards realising its vision of becoming the leading private healthcare provider inside and outside the country through the provision of high quality healthcare services at affordable but competitive prices.

‘This vision I can confidently say we have already achieved at 40 at least here in Ghana,’ he noted.

He said the hospital, from a humble beginning, has become the number one referral centre for dermatology-related cases in Ghana with the team of doctors trekking the length and breadth of the country daily to administer healthcare to the deprived.

Prof Delle also used the occasion to advise young doctors to have the spirit of giving back to their society and the courage of establishing their own health facilities, adding that with humility and planning, one can make dreams become a reality.

Banguu Delle, Central Manager of Rabito Clinic, outlining the activities for the anniversary said activities such as blood donation exercise, free skin screening and outreach programmes as well as special events like clean-up exercise, church services and award nights would be held to mark the celebration.
