Ashanti Regional Nursing And Midwifery Directorate Moves To Save Professional Image
The Ashanti Regional Directorate of Nursing and Midwifery says it is adopting more stringent measures to check negative attitude of nurses and midwives.
Deputy Director, Rita Anafo, says avenues are also being created for patients and other members of the public to register their concerns.
She believes the dented image of professionals due to their own misconduct, will take tough measures to restore.
Nurses and midwives have persistently come under public scrutiny for inefficiency and other acts of ethical breaches.
The recent missing baby saga at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital appears to have given more credence to the negative public perception about nurses.
Madam Anafo, however, tells Luv News practitioners will be required to wear name tags for easy identification as part of measures to instill discipline.
‘The Regional Director and his team have realized measures should be put in place to address the misconducts of nurses and midwives, so the directorate among other would soon be giving out hotlines which could be resorted to when one visits any facility and is discontented with the attitude of a nurse or a midwife.
Nurses would also soon be wearing tags which would bear a unique number and a name for easy identification and reportage of misconduct,’ she revealed.
Madam Anafo addressed a section of nurses at a symposium in Kumasi to climax this year’s Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association’s Week celebration.
Sheindicates uneven distribution of personnel is one of the challenges confronting the health sector.
Madam Anafo tells Luv News rural communities deserve more attention in allocation of resources in order to reduce the rate of referrals from health facilities there.
‘It is mal-distribution which brings pressure on nurses at some facilities whiles others are found redundant at some health centers. The Directorate would however ensure adequate nurses are allocated to places where needed and we would disallow any undue manipulation of the process,’she affirmed.
