Richard Nyamah Likely To Abandon Lawsuit

A New Patriotic Party (NPP) youth activist, Richard Nyamah says he is considering abandoning a lawsuit against the Finance Ministry for its indebtedness to the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund).

Mr. Nyamah earlier filed a lawsuit to protest the Finance Ministry’s failure to pay moneys into the GETFund as required by law since 2013.

According to him, the Ministry owes the GETFund approximately GHC 687 million.

The court however adjourned Mr. Nyamah’s law suit to July 10, 2014 since the ruling on the case was not ready for proceedings to take off.

In an interview with Citi News, Mr. Nyamah said the decision to adjourn the case continually is frustrating him.

“I am getting frustrated and I am considering abandoning the case because of the way it is going. It is taking too much of my time and I don’t get paid for it,”

“I am a worker and I leave my work to go and sit at the court room three four hours virtually on a week basis and then it gets to a point where you think that everything will work, you don’t get the ruling,” Mr. Nyamah lamented.

According to him, “there is the need for urgency to be attached to the issue since the lives of people are at stake.”

“It is in the interest of the Ghanaian public and for their prosperity that I am doing it.”
