Clint Dempsey: We Are Unlucky But We’ll Beat Germany

USA captain Clint Dempsey is confident the USA team will beat Germany to reach the Round of 16 in the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
The Americans play the Germans in their last group encounter.

USA relinquished a 2-1 lead to draw with Portugal but had the better part in picking all points against the Black Stars of Ghana in their opener.

A draw with Germany on Thursday will save USA and Dempsey believes the Americans have come far to beat any team in their group.

“We are determined to win against Portugal but luck helped them to level when we shot ourselves in front before they had the late equalizer,” Dempsey said.

“We put in a good performance. I thought we played better than the last game against Ghana. Just unlucky not to get victory but at the end of the day, we got a point. We’re still looking good in the group.”

Team USA will now need a tie or victory over Germany to advance.

“Our last game with Germany, we will handle them with care so as to reach that stage even though it will be a difficult match but we want to remain in the competition.”

Dempsey scored US second against Portugal and scored the fastest goal of the tournament against Ghana in their opener.
