It would be recalled that the speaker who was slated to give a speech on Monday at the International conference on security and development challenges of pastoralism in West and central Africa organized by the office of the National Security Adviser which held at Hotel 17, was stopped by soldiers who insisted they must search his car before he would be allowed into the venue.

According to The Nation, a high ranking security personnel who spoke on condition of anonymity yesterday in Kaduna, said that the NSA gave the directive in reaction to the widely reported incident that was published on various media.

The source, however, denied that the soldiers stationed at the venue of the event to ensure security never insisted on searching Tambuwal’s car.

“There was never an attempt by soldiers and other security agents to search the Speaker’s vehicle as all dignitaries and participants were accorded due respect” he said.

According to the source, what really transpired that very day was that: “detectives from the Department of State Security Services and other security operatives were trying to verify whether or not it was actually the Speaker’s vehicle when he hurriedly disembarked and walked to the conference hall. The service chiefs parked their vehicles 300 meters away from the venue and trekked.”

He, however, alleged that Tambuwal was aware of such security procedures, saying: “anytime he comes to Mambilla Barracks for Friday prayers, his vehicles are always verified. It is customary.”
