Murdered Chief To Be Buried

Naa Dasana Abdulai Andani II
Government has finally succumbed to pressure to release the mortal remains of the murdered paramount chief of the Bimbilla Traditional Area, Naa Dasana Abdulai Andani II, to the bereaved family for burial in accordance with the customs and traditions of the people of Nanum.

Pathologists at the Tamale Teaching Hospital were expected on Tuesday to conduct a postmortem on the body of the chief to establish the actual cause of death before handing it over to the family.

The Minister of Defence, Mark Owen Wayongo, announced the decision of government to hand over the body to the family, latest by Wednesday after the necessary examinations have been done.

Armed police details on guard duties for daily schedules were reported to have vacated their duty post earlier than the expected time when the military who were supposed to relieve them had not reported.

This resulted in the creation of a vacuum which the assailants capitalised on to murder the chief and his subjects, a situation the Defence Minister, who is also the acting Minister condemned.

The Minister however hinted that intelligence indicates there is a significant proliferation of arms into the three regions of the north.

He expressed worry over the arms movement, disclosing that most of those sophisticated weapons were believed to be coming from the southern part of the neighbouring Burkina Faso and Cote d’Ivoire.

The paramount chief of the Bimbilla Traditional Area in the Nanumba North District of the Northern Region, Naa Andani Dassana Abdulai II, and five of his subjects were last Thursday murdered by some unidentified gunmen at his palace.

Abdul Mumin Alhassan, an aide to the murdered chief, Issah Ziblim, a kingmaker and a final year student of the Islamic University College as well as two other persons who were reluctant in giving out their identity were all killed.

The assailants who perpetrated the heinous crime according to the bereaved family were uniformed military and policemen numbering about five but without name tags and service numbers for easy identification but managed to gain access to the paramount chief.

Dasana Salifu Wumbei, the family spokesperson disclosed that the gun-wielding cops arrived at the house in the company of a certain Issah Buga moments after the police on guard duties had left the palace.

The palace maidens according to Wumbei without hesitation directed them to the chief who had concluded his evening Islamic prayers and was relaxing at his lobby reciting versus of the Holy Quran.

Moments later, gunshots were heard from where the chief was seated and indiscriminate shooting ensued, resulting in the death of Abdul Mumin Alhassan and Issah Ziblim, both aides of the murdered chief.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Nanumba North District, Alhaji Mohammed Ibn Abbass and the District Police Commander are among 17 persons arrested in connection with the incident, and are currently in Accra assisting the National Security Secretariat in unraveling the perpetrators behind the crime.

Meanwhile, crime scene investigators remain on the ground as security chiefs get to the bottom of the incident to unmask the main culprits of the crime in the wake of uneasy calm in Bimbilla and its environs.
