2015: Ex-Governor Alao-Akala Joins Oyo Governorship Race

Former Governor of Oyo State Adebayo Alao-Akala reportedly joined the 2015 governorship race in the state. yesterday.

It would be recalled that in January 2014, the ex-governor made his intentions of running for Governor known with his campaign posters flooding the city of Ibadan.

The Governor who said he accepted to run so as to help his party, Peoples’ Democratic Party take over from All Progressive Part  in the state.

He said that the APC came into power fraudulently, adding “they must go back as they cannot sustain it”.

“They came in through court verdicts; we are going to send them packing. The PDP will take over Osun and other states of the South West in 2015. The APC is not ready for governance,” he declared.

“I have accepted to their request. It is the people of the state that are clamouring for Akala. Like what happened in Ekiti, the people like and want him and he won the election,” he said.

This is following the adoption of the former governor by the leaders of the party in the five local government areas of the Ogbomoso Zone at a meeting.

One of the party leaders, Chief James Adebayo Adewusi while addressing newsmen after the meeting, said the decision to adopt Alao-Akala was taken at a meeting held at the house of the former All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Senator Ade Adeseun in Ogbomoso.

He said the leaders would reach out to other leaders in other zones to ensure Alao-Akala’s victory at the party primaries.

According to him, some of the criteria used were his antecedents during his first tenure, humility and capability to deliver the state for the party in 2015.

Meanwhile Alao Akala has said he has equal rights and opportunity to contest for the election just like other contestants.
