Mr Jones Ayertey, the microfinance manager of Shai-Rural Bank and the Chairman of Dangme Youth Awake Network, has called on the traditional authorities to assist the youth to enable them to pursue programmes which will benefit them.
Mr. Jones Ayertey made the call at the launch of a book on the Dangme land at Dodowa in the Shai-Osudoku District of the Greater Accra region at the weekend.
Nene Nornor Sordjee the fourth, Acting President of Se Traditional Council, also called on the chiefs and people of the Shai State to demonstrate a high level of tolerance to ensure peace in the area at all times.
He said back-biting, chieftaincy disputes and other forms of negative tendencies, tend to derail development and must be avoided.
The 265-page book titled ‘Catalyst for Change in the Dangme Land” which talks about how the Dangme land must be developed, and also looking at whether the Dangme land is in a state of stagnation or retrogression was authored by Dr Raphael Nyarkotey Obu, a registered naturopathic doctor and a Prostate Cancer Community Champion with Men’s Heath Foundation Ghana.
Nene Sordjee said the time has come for the chiefs and the people to come together, and champion the cause of unity and also help the youth in their endeavours.
He attributed the low development of the Shai State to the neglect of the central government, and asked government provide them with amenities such as good roads, education and hospitals, to enable the people live decent lives.
The Acting President also charged the youth to emulate the shining example of Dr Obu, by taking their education seriously to enable them to grow to become useful citizens.
He advised the youth to desist from engaging in acts which tend to create chaos in the area.
Nene Agyemang Okukrubour Teye Kwesi the fifth, Dodowa Mantse, appealed to the youth to do everything possible to ensure that the Shai State was marketed to the outside world.
He praised Dr Obu for coming out with such a book, and called on the other citizens of the Shai State to emulate his shining example.
Dr Obu said he came out with the book when he realized that the standard of education in the area has fallen, coupled with its under-development and chieftaincy dispute in the Shai State.
He expressed the hope that the publication of the book will go a long way to impact positively on the people of the area and Ghanaians in general.
Nene Adjartey Konor II of Doryumu who forward the book said Dr Obu deserved well of the Dangme People and charged him to do more for his people and not only on prostate cancer. He said charity they say begins from home.
