The Pantang Hospital Rehab Centre will soon be transformed into a world-class centre following the introduction of a modern ICT facility that will equip residents with Information Technology skills as an integral part of their rehabilitation program.
Established in 2009, the centre currently serves as a home for about twenty five (25) patients recovering from substance addiction. In spite of its successes in rehabilitating and reintegrating residents into society, the centre is inadequately equipped to impart residents with technical and vocational skills in order to make them economically valuable after their rehabilitation program at the centre.
It is to this effect that the HuD Group Global, an international Christian not-for-profit movement on Saturday presented five new Dell Desktop Computers and an Acer Laptop to the centre to promote the development of IT skills among residents.
At the short ceremony, Global CEO of The HuD Group, Dr. Yaw Perbi admonished residents to take advantage of the computers to develop their IT skills as an added value for their holistic development. He added that there was a need for each individual to develop their ‘heads which is your knowledge, heart which is your attitude and character as well as your hands which are skills’ in order to make them relevant in today’s world.
Country CEO of The HuD Group, Dr. William Okyere-Frimpong in an interview with 233livenews said it had become important for the HuD Group to donate the computers to the centre as a way of equipping them to become a world-class facility.
‘Our desire is to have a world-class rehabilitation centre and we believe we can have that here. When you look at the the drive and eagerness of the people in here, there is a lot of potential so we are committed to enriching their rehab process’
Programs Manager at the centre, Ms. Judith Avevor expressed her profound appreciation to The HuD Group for their immense and continuous support to the centre saying the computers would boost the process of rehabilitation and promote work at the centre. She also called on other social groupings and corporate organizations to assist the facility with materials to aid their work and improve the quality of their service delivery.
The HuD Group earlier in May 2014 launched a charity project worth GH¢ 3,000 to support residents of the centre with capital and tools to start viable businesses or enter apprenticeship after their rehabilitation program at the centre.
